Adrian Walls is a Long Beach Yogi that has been practicing for the past 7 years. Adrian, a full time mother of 3 children, practices several times daily. She even practices in her hammock! Adrian was the winner of our Yoga Includes Me photo contest. Her photo exemplified our festival theme. Adrian replied that "yoga is a way of life for her. It is the way that she deals with pain and strife. I am able to express myself in each pose and I am able to breathe. Although each pose has been done before, I am able to make each pose my own. I feel at peace as I practice and my mind is clear as I move into each pose. Sometimes, as I am in a pose I might have a thought come to me. I am able to think it, then let it go. I find that my day goes smoothly because I practiced that morning. I am able to focus more and I tend to be more productive that day." Adrian, who experienced a near fatal accident at age 5, was told she would not see age 6. Adrian has the true warrior spirit!
Jerry Valancy is a 68 year old and has been practicing yoga for approximately 50 years. This photo was taken of Jerry at his 67th birthday. Jerry takes photographs each year of his yoga practice to document what he is able to do at that age. Although Jerry goes to yoga classes, he has a home practice as well. Jerry stated "real improvement is possible if we stop trying and just observe what is happening". Jerry exemplifies our them of Yoga Includes Me! Look for Jerry at the Soul Long Beach Yoga Festival and give him a warm hello!
Hello, my name is Amy and I had never tried yoga until I was 48 years old. That was 2 1/2 years ago. Since then, I have found balance, peace, and a sense of belonging that I have never had. Yoga and the worldwide tribe of yogis has given me so much. My own yoga family here has given me a sense of belonging and confidence that I never thought possible. In 5 days I begin training to become a yoga instructor because I want to give others the gift that has been given to me.
