Michael's main passions are his spiritual practices of Bhakti yoga, hatha yoga (he's a certified Jivamukti teacher), and Five Rhythms/ecstatic dance. He discovered his musicality and voice through the practice of devotional chanting & has made it a consistent personal practice since he was introduced to daily chanting at the Sivananda ashram in the Bahamas in the late 90's. Living in NYC at the time, he was delighted to discover the kirtan community, and took every opportunity to sit with the likes of Jai Uttal, Krishna das, Bhagavan Das, Shyamdas, and others. He's also a certified Reiki practitioner and a 3rd degree black belt in the Seido Karate system.
He feels grateful and blessed to be able to share his practice and medicine with others by leading kirtan – to have the opportunity to create an uplifting communal experience of group prayer. He sings some traditional tunes with his own embellishments, but mostly traditional Sanskrit mantras set to his original music. He sings with a sweet, celestial, heart-felt yearning – weaving a soundscape of hypnotic harmonics, joyful celebration, and fierce intensity. Not having any formal training, he plays and sings intuitively – his unique melodies (often channeled in dreams) reveal an apparent blend of musical influences including Indian classical, the Beatles, psychedelic & indie rock, jazz, gospel, and even gypsy music – creating a fusion that honors the tradition while expressing a unique, deeply personal offering.
He can be found leading kirtan at yoga studios, festivals, conscious gatherings, and singing with his harmonium for yoga classes in the Los Angeles area.
He humbly bows at the feet Maharaj-ji Neem Karoli Baba, and all of his Teachers, and wishes only to honor them by singing the holy names. You can reach Michael by his website or social media:
